My problem here is that by the time Ive got to Later, Ive forgotten where and why the Later was originally referenced but perhaps thats just me.. Aside from this minor criticism, I found BLS to be very helpful to the extent that Im about to embark on BLS, The Year One Challenge.
All in all, this is probably the best book I have bought on weight training and diet and, hopefully, will help me transform over the next 12 months.. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to look into the whys and wherefores of the subject.
Finally, I should mention that Mike really does reply to emails, much to my pleasant surprise, and will offer further advice if necessary.
This is the best book that I have ever read on the subject of weight training. The writing style is very straightforward and engaging and I have flown through the book in a few days.
There is a wealth of information included relating to both diet and workout plans along with a stack of scientific evidence to back up the claims. I have found that I have a much clearer idea about how to train now that I have read this book.
Previously I followed a pretty similar path to many others in joining a gym whereby I would do a simple program put together by the trainer and then gradually get bored and start doing random exercises without too much thought into the structure.
At the age of 45 it is a case of now or never for me so having read this book I have set up a home gym with a power rack which will allow me to focus on the main compound exercises as outlined in this book without having to drag myself to the gym all of the time.
I have a structured workout pattern to follow and I am documenting my progress so I finally feel that I am able to measure my gains which will provide further encouragement to continue with the training plan.
An additional 100+ page pdf file can be downloaded that sets out a whole years worth of workout plans based upon either 3, 4 or 5 days routines. The routines change around every 8 weeks so again there is no chance of getting bored.
I am following a 4 day routine and am already making progress in increasing my lifts and am starting to see some development of my body. This is really exciting to see since I have never made a great deal of headway previously in changing my visual appearance.
I intend to stick to the training plan for the full 12 months and have no doubt that I will be in much better shape.
